Dan Brown

Dan Brown represents insurance companies, start-ups, agents and brokers, and others in all aspects of the admitted, exempt, and surplus lines insurance markets in the United States. This includes advising alien or foreign insurers on how to comply with various state laws in placing business; advising early-stage and developed InsurTech entities on regulatory and corporate issues; advising insureds on exempt and specialty lines such as marine, aviation, and transportation risks; advising producers on licensing, placement and premium tax issues, including digitization of the process; and advising insureds on coverage and placement issues. Dan advises participants in the London market on how to comply with U.S. insurance laws, either by becoming admitted insurers or by utilizing a variety of methods of covering U.S. risks without being licensed.



Louise Day

Louise Day is Director of Operations at the IUA and has over 20 years’ experience delivering change management projects at a senior level across the London Market and wider financial services sector. Louise joined the IUA in 2015 to oversee company market involvement in market modernisation and has since been involved in many major initiatives, including the e-placing platform PPL and other projects under the London Market Target Operating Model. She is a non-executive director of London Insurance Market Operations & Strategic Sourcing (LIMOSS). Louise is also a member of the inclusion@Lloyd’s committee and a dedicated supporter of London Market diversity and inclusion campaigns. Louise has been involved in project delivery throughout her career and has additional experience of managed service delivery. She has worked for London market insurers for 11 years and her current role also involves promoting talent and diversity initiatives across the sector.

Toby Esser

Nick Maddalena

Head of Insurance, Windward

Nick Maddalena is Windward's Head of Insurance Business. He's spent the past near 30 years working in the London insurance and reinsurance market in both broking and underwriting roles. In 2005 he co-founded Seacurus, a managing general underwriter and Lloyd's Coverholder underwriting marine risks. Seacurus became one of the market’s leading marine piracy insurers before being acquired by a Lloyd’s Managing Agency in 2013. He joined Windward in 2018.


Elaine Mason

Elaine has spent her whole career in the world of insurance claims working for both small and large insurers, personal lines and commercial, direct and reinsurance. In 2010, Elaine felt a change of direction was needed and left the senior role she held at the ACE Europe / ACE Tempest Re organisation and founded a management consultancy business focused on the delivery of excellence claims service. The company has been successful and grown organically and Elaine felt the changes in the London Market Claims environment were not moving forward quick enough so applied for the innovation Lab at Lloyd’s.  As the application was successful Elaine has recently founded an Insurtech Start Up with the aim of improving the claims process of London Market Multi-Party Subscription Claims through online collaboration via the new claims platform ‘Simplify Claims’.

Trevor Maynard
Head of Innovation Lab, Lloyd’s

Dr Trevor Maynard is Head of Innovation at Lloyd’s and is responsible for the Lloyd’s Lab, encouraging a culture of innovation within the Lloyd’s market  and identification and removal of barriers to innovation.  His team’s work on thought leadership has covered subjects like AI, Robotics,   the internet of things,  extreme marine risks, cyber aggregation events, the insurance gap, and the sharing economy. He is Co-chairman of OASIS, an open access platform for Catastrophe models and sits on the Board of the Lighthill Risk Network, a research collaboration between reinsurers and brokers.  Trevor has degrees in Pure Maths and a PhD in Statistics.  He is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and of the Institute of Mathematics and its applications.

Robert Reville
CEO, Praedicat

Bob Reville is the President & CEO of Praedicat, a latency risk analytics company that is transforming liability insurance underwriting and risk management.  Prior to co-founding Praedicat, Bob was Senior Economist at the RAND Corporation, where he conceived and led an R&D project mining the text of peer-reviewed science to identify emerging “next asbestos” risks.  The project provided the foundation for Praedicat and Bob traded policy research for start-up life.  Bob’s research career focused on liability, risk and insurance. He was the Director of the RAND Institute for Civil Justice, a liability research center which published influential research on asbestos; and co-director of the RAND Center for Terrorism Risk Management Policy, which published research on terrorism insurance that was cited in congressional debates over the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act. Bob has also written over a dozen studies on workers’ compensation. He received his Ph.D. in economics from Brown University.


Laurent Rousseau

Laurent Rousseau started his career in 2001 as an equity analyst at Credit Suisse First Boston in London, covering European insurers and reinsurers. In 2005, he joined J.P. Morgan in the insurance Investment Banking team, executing M&A, capital raising and restructuring transactions for European insurers and reinsurers. He joined SCOR in 2010 as Advisor to the CEO, and became Head of SCOR Global P&C’s Strategy and Business Development in 2012. In July 2015, Laurent became Chief Underwriting Officer of SCOR Global P&C’s treaty business in Europe, Middle East & Africa. In April 2018, he was appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer of SCOR Global P&C and a member of the Group’s Executive Committee.

Laurent Rousseau is a graduate of HEC (Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales).

James Slaughter

Executive Vice President and CUO, Liberty Mutual’s Global Risk Solutions Strategic Business Unit

James joined Commercial Union as a graduate trainee in 1997. Following the mergers with GA and Norwich Union James transferred to Berkshire Hathaway in 1999 with the Marlborough sale and began underwriting a marine reinsurance account on Syndicate 1861. In 2005 James joined Liberty Syndicates to head up their reinsurance underwriting in London. During his time at Liberty Syndicates he oversaw the development of its capital and risk management framework as well as taking responsibility for strategy and business planning. In 2010 James was asked to lead the newly formed Global Reinsurance Strategy Group managing all Internal and ceded reinsurance and risk and exposure management functions. In 2018 Liberty Mutual reorganised its Global Specialty and Commercial Lines and James has taken up the role of Chief Underwriting Officer for the Global Risk Solutions business unit.
