Igor Best-Devereux, President and CEO, eReinsure, Inc.

Igor founded eReinsure in 1999, when InsurTech companies were still called B2B dotcoms. After initially self-funding the start-up, Igor raised three rounds of venture capital from strategic and venture investors to launch the eReinsure platform with major insurance carriers, reinsurers and reinsurance brokers in 2001. Since then, eReinsure’s patented “negotiation” process has become the most widely used digital distribution technology for reinsurance with over 20,000 reinsurance professionals registered to use eReinsure technology at more than 300 companies in 85 countries. eReinsure was purchased by AmWINS Group Inc., in 2013.

Thomas Dawson, Partner, Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP

Thomas M. Dawson represents U.S. and non-U.S. insurers on regulatory, licensing and corporate matters. He is co-chair of the firm's Insurance Regulatory and Transactional Team within the
Corporate and Securities Practice Group.

Tom advises industry participants on a wide variety of regulatory and transactional matters, including cybersecurity compliance, insurtech ventures and Holding Company Act filings. He has assisted clients form, acquire and invest in U.S. insurers, reinsurers and intermediaries. He counsels non-insurers on advertising, licensing and marketing generally, and provides regulatory compliance advice to service contract issuers and other specialty product providers.

Tom has guided non-U.S. re/insurers in the London market, Europe, Bermuda, and in Asia for more than 25 years, helping them obtain and maintain surplus lines and reinsurer approvals as well as monitoring state and Federal legislation.

Mark Dowds
, Chief Strategy Officer & Co-founder, Trov

Mark co-founded on-demand insurance platform Trov in 2012 and is in charge of the start-up's revenue, strategy and growth as it seeks to expand internationally.

He previously spent two decades as a serial investor and founder. In that time he has helped get dozens of ventures off the ground, through his Canadian-based incubators Fresh Initiatives and Creationstep.

Mark was an LP in Bullet Time Ventures, an early seed investor in Uber, Twilio and many more emerging tech start-ups. He currently chairs the board of Generation Innovation - a program designed to bring entrepreneurial experiences to high school students throughout Northern Ireland.

He is an advisor to several companies including Neurovalens, Jumpack, StageTen, WorldBlu, and eHarvestHub.

Mark Duff, Associate, Z/Yen Group UK

Mark is an experienced professional in the London Insurance Market with a solid and strategic understanding of the international reinsurance market and the utilisation of IT within global financial organisations.

Mark first started his career as a Lloyd’s broker and underwriter before moving on to account management working with IT solutions providers such as CSC where he managed accounts for customers within the London Market until 2005 and then TriSystems Limited until 2011. He was Head of Client Management at Qatarlyst Limited and Ebix. Currently, Mark is undertaking assignments on behalf of the Z/Yen group.

Michael B. C. Fitzgibbon, CIP, Vice President and Chief Underwriting Officer, Slice Insurance Technologies Inc.

Michael Fitzgibbon joined Slice as Vice President of Insurance Services and Chief Underwriting Officer following a 28-year career in the insurance industry as an underwriter and broker. At Slice, Michael is leading product and policy development, underwriting, actuarial, claims and insurer engagement.

Michael has held senior leadership positions with global insurance brokerage Marsh, has co-owned and was President of a regional independent insurance agency, and has been an underwriting and product manager at CNA.

Simon Gaffney, Chief Data Officer, Willis Towers Watson

Simon is the Chief Data Officer of Willis Towers Watson, a leading global advisory, broking and solutions company. In his role Simon is responsible for the company’s data strategy, data assets and information security.

Simon has been with Willis Towers Watson for 20 years and in that time served in a variety of roles at Willis, the global insurance broker, most recently as COO for the Global Businesses, Director of Corporate Development, and Chief of Staff.  Simon joined Willis with the acquisition of the insurance and technology research firm W.I.R.E. in 2000.

Simon represents Willis Towers Watson and LIIBA (the London & International Insurance Brokers’ Association) at various insurance industry forums including the London Market Target Operating Model (LM TOM). Simon is currently a Director of The Message Exchange (TMEL) and has previously served on the Board of Placing Platform Limited (PPL), the London Market Electronic Trading Platform. He is also Director of ACORD  (Association for Cooperative Operations Research and Development), the global, non-profit organization serving the insurance and related industries.

Simon holds a BSc. in Geography and Environmental Biology from the University of St Andrews and is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.

Jeff Greenberg
, Chairman and Chief
Executive, Aquiline Capital Partners LLC

Jeff is the chairman and chief executive of Aquiline. Prior to founding Aquiline in 2005, he was the chairman and chief executive officer of Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. (NYSE: MMC). Previously, he was chief executive officer of MMC Capital, MMC’s private equity business. Prior to MMC Capital, Jeff served in numerous executive positions at American International Group (NYSE: AIG) for 17 years including executive vice president of AIG’s domestic brokerage group.

Adrian Jones, Head of Strategy & Development, SCOR Global P&C

Adrian Jones is Head of Strategy & Development at SCOR Global P&C. Based in Paris, he is a member of SCOR’s P&C Leadership Team and has responsibility for InsurTech as well as strategy, M&A, broker relationships, and marketing.

Prior to joining SCOR a year ago, he spent 6 years as Head of Strategy at RenaissanceRe in Bermuda, where he led the day-to-day integration of Platinum Underwriters Ltd. He joined the industry during nine years at Bain & Company, where he consulted on strategy in financial services, private equity, and a variety of other industries.

Adrian holds an MBA from Columbia and a bachelor’s degree from Wharton.

Steven Mendel, CEO & Co-founder, Bought By Many 

Steven qualified as an actuary at Aon, before moving on to become a strategy consultant at McKinsey and business leader at Barclays Wealth and Close Brothers. He previously founded an art finance business for renowned auction house Christie's and set up an investment consultancy to make asset-based advice available to all pension funds.

Steven formed Bought By Many in 2012 to try and shift the balance of power in insurance away from preferential treatment for corporates towards a focus on individuals. He aims to disrupt the world of insurance through the innovative use of search and social media.

Barney Schauble
, Managing Principal, Nephila Advisors LLC

Barney joined Nephila in 2004 as a Managing Principal and moved to San Francisco in 2010 to set up Nephila Advisors, LLC. Mr. Schauble is also a Director of Nephila Capital Ltd. and Nephila Holdings Ltd. His primary responsibilities include investor relations, strategic and business development projects and oversight of Nephila’s weather fund.

Barney began working in re/insurance in New York in 1993 as a broker for Marsh and Guy Carpenter. He left in 1996 to join Goldman, Sachs & Co. in their Risk Markets group, where he spent six years working on development and distribution of catastrophe and weather-linked products. Barney joined XL Capital in 2003 and was head of marketing for the weather risk management business.

Barney attended Harvard College and received his B.A. in Economics in 1995; he wrote his senior thesis to explore investing in bonds linked to property catastrophe reinsurance risk. He served as a Director of The Climate Corporation (2007-20012), and MetroMile (2009-2011). He has been a Director of Ceres (a non-profit devoted to sustainable capitalism) since 2011 and a Director of Advisen Ltd (an insurance analytics business) since 2014.  

Sabine VanderLinden, Managing Director, Startupbootcamp

Sabine is the Managing Director of Startupbootcamp InsurTech, the leading early-stage and independent accelerator for insurance technology startups located in Europe. Sabine cultivates the expertise of leading insurers, investors and mentors to bring the innovation of ten start-ups to market within a three month-period. She brings extensive operational and growth strategy expertise gleaned from her corporate innovation and startup acceleration activities working with global firms and 100s of well-known financial services institutions for which she's developed unique growth strategies. Outside Startupbootcamp, Sabine advices and coaches a variety of businesses. Sabine is also a co-editor of the first crowdsourced InsurTECH Book, which will be published by Wiley early 2018.

Steve Webb, Partner, PwC

Steve is the Partner that leads the UK blockchain practice. Steve has over thirty years of experience in delivering technology enabled transformation to clients, primarily in Financial Services.

Steve has a track record of delivering pragmatic business oriented change to exploit new innovation. He has been focussing on the impact of Distributed Ledger (aka blockchain) on a number of clients helping them to identify benefits and threats, define their strategic response and working to identify the key barriers to adoption and how to overcome them. Work delivered includes a proof of concept for Bank of England using blockchain to deliver a settlements solution and a claims management PoC using Smart Contract functionality for London (Insurance) Market Target Operating Model team.

Steve has published several articles and spoken at a number of industry forums on blockchain.

Jennyfer Yeung-Williams, Partner Engagement Manager, Munich Re - Digital Partners

Jennyfer leads the European Partner Engagement Manager for Munich Re Digital Partners. Digital Partners is a global business working with, and investing in start-ups, with the ambition of building a more engaged proposition for insurance customers.

Jennyfer worked in the captive industry in Dublin for 10 years, for various MNCs captives like Cadbury and Tesco and she was part of the board of management of the Michelin captives. She joined Munich Re in 2011. She worked in Munich Re Singapore and Toronto, where she led the Innovation team focussed on sharing economies, before joining the Digital Partners unit in London.
